Local 22 Training/Education Department General Information
PURPOSE:
To organize and facilitate a permanent, ongoing education
and training program in order to promote a safer and
more productive work environment in our industry.
GOALS:
To protect our continuing safety in a dangerous industry,
and improve our reputation, all the while increasing our
work opportunities in Local 22's jurisdiction.

PRINCIPLES:
1. That a coordinated and continuing effort to train the
general membership of Local 22 meets the demands of
safety and increasingly complex technology.
2. That the training should support, not replace, the OJT
methods traditionally used and in place.
3. That it is the workers' responsibility to pursue the subject
material - the Union's responsibility is to make the material
available to anyone on the Referral List.
4. That the training offered will follow the existing national
and industry standards for safety and technology, and that
it will always stress the realities of our workplace, especially
in areas where no standards exist.
GUIDELINES:
1. A series of core classes (Grips, Electrics, Rigging, Sound,
Props) will be offered to the general membership on a con-
tinuing and regular basis.
2. Advanced courses in the core areas, in other subjects, and
in new technology useful to the membership will be offered
as interest is indicated.
3. Every effort will be made to provide appropriate training
conforming to OSHA regulations and those of other similar
bodies, along with periodic evaluation and refresher courses
as required.

CERTIFICATE CLASSES:
In particular areas Certificates will be offered, fulfilled by
instructors properly qualified, and by coursework designed
to follow applicable requirements. Such courses will include
necessary written or performance testing, and onsite eval-
uation, always stressing our workplace situation. Certifi-
cates offered can only encompass exposure and
understanding of the particular subject material, as op-
posed to any kind of licensing situation, for which we are
not prepared or protected from liability.
