IATSE Local 22 General Information


Our union is the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians, Artists and Allied Crafts of the United States and Canada, commonly abbreviated IATSE or IA.

Our Local, 22, is a STAGE local meaning our members are employed as stagehands and AV technicians in theaters, arenas, and similar venues; primarily we service live entertainment venues.

There are STUDIO MECHANICS locals, such as Local 487 in Baltimore that services films and video production in the entire Mid Atlantic area. There are also locals covering designers, box office personnel many different specialty crafts within the film industry, film projectionists, etc., and they are located all over the United States and Canada. Our International Office is located in New York and it governs all the locals, with a roster of officers and field representatives.

Local 22 now numbers over 300 cardholding members and a referral list over three times that size. We have contracts with more than 15 venues in the area, including 6 in the Kennedy Center alone. We work in many more venues, including the DC Convention center, under our general �book� contracts. They cover hotel conventions, live television shoots, parties and meetings, rigging jobs in places like the Smithsonian museums or outdoors on the mall, concerts in stadiums and arenas, and major events all over the city like presidential inaugurations. The door for Union membership in Local 22 is open and all who qualify are welcome to join.

There are many benefits and privileges available to Local 22 members. Some of the benefits and privileges of Union membership include: the right to attend and participate in Union meetings; the right to nominate and vote for candidates for Union office; the right to run for Union office and for delegate to the International Alliance�s convention; the right to participate in contract ratification and strike votes; the right to participate in formulating collective bargaining demands; and the right to participate in the development and formulation in policies. Eligible and enrolled members are also entitled to benefits provided by the Union Privilege and Union Plus programs available through the International Alliance.

TO APPLY FOR REFERRAL TO WORK


IATSE Local 22 accepts applications for our Referral System on the first Thursday of each month between 9 am and 12pm.  You may send a resume at any time.

When you apply, please bring a photo ID (drivers license) and your Social Security card. A resume is helpful if you have one. You can download the Application for the Local 22, IATSE Referral List by clicking on this Link. If you print it and fill it out, then you can bring it with you to the office when you apply and save some time. You must bring it to the office in person as described above; emailing it or mailing it is not allowed.

AS A MEMBER OF THE IATSE LOCAL 22 REFERRAL SYSTEM YOU:

Will be expected to follow the chain of command & the Local 22 Referral Rules & Procedures

Will be expected to arrive on time for every job referred to you

Will be expected to have in your possession a least the tools listed in the Local 22 referral Rules & Procedures

May be required to lift at least 50 lbs and may be required to lift heavy objects multiple times

May be required to work weekends and holidays- including family oriented holidays like Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving day and Christmas Day among others

May be required to work long hours, sometimes over twelve (12) hours

May be required to work odd hours (after midnight and before eight (8) AM)-and note that these call times can come up quickly

Will be required to work with people who may be culturally or ethnically different from you or your values

Will be required to be a team player

Are encouraged to participate in our excellent Training and Education program

Are encouraged to take all appropriate Referral List Advancement exams
